Thank you so much for this video! I am an avid listener of the "In Our Time" podcast, where Melvyn Bragg always has interesting questions and comments and shows a breadth of knowledge that I can only dream of! "The Adventure of English" sounds like a fascinating read, thank you for the recommendation!
I am obsessed with “In Our Time” on BBC Sounds, Melvyn Bragg has brought me hours of pleasure. I picked up “The Maid of Buttermere” at a second hand bookshop but have yet to read it. Thanks to your video I may move it further up my TBR shelf. I’m in a bit of a reading slump so watching you is part of my therapy, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video Rosamunde! And I will definitely read "The adventure of English" right away! Sounds like a great read! Hello to Tilly as always! It is so nice to that you are making videos so regularly lately!😀 Hope to see you very soon again!
I've Loved Melvin Bragg's vlogs on all topics. Only discovered 8 or 9 years ago. Our Library has his novel Tristan and Isolde? Thank you! I always forget his Name to rerun his shows.
Thank you, Rosamunde, for this Letter "B" selection. I recently watched your video on the Brontës. It seems I'm not watching your podcasts in the correct order. Although not directly related to the Olympics, I would recommend Lawrence Hill's The Illegal as it has to do with running (to freedom), relates directly to the global illegal mass migration crisis, and follows the struggles of undocumented refugees. Hill is famous in Canadian Literature for another work, The Book of Negroes.
Already eagerly looking forward to C in your A to Z list and hoping you will find space for Catherine Cookson and her novel Tilly Trotter which I have always assumed was the inspiration for Tilly's name!
Thanks for this suggestion. However, I have to say that I've never read Cookson, so she's not in my bookshelf! I will try one of her books some day, and then hopefully review some time in the future. Tilly is a rescue dog and she came to me with that name 🙂
Melvyn Bragg… I had never heard of him until I found his podcast In our time, which I love. There was also a radio interview with him, last year I think. I didn’t know he was a writer too! Thank you! On the subject of English, do you know the History of English podcast? I listened to all the early episodes a few years ago and found it fascinating.
I always had a bit of a crush on Melvyn Bragg . The thinking woman's crumpet , to paraphrase Frank Muir. Will certainly check out his books and his interview with Dennis Potter. thanks Rosamunde. Tummy tickles to Tilly 🐶🐶
I'm interested in your reference to a "class system that was kind of still there...". Very interested about your take on things, your impression of this issue, if I can put it like that?? I have enjoyed your video about _The Old Curiosity Shop_
A truly inspirational book - especially in light of the current state of turmoil in American politics - has to be "Becoming" by former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Thank you so much Rosamund very interesting hello to lovely tilly looking forward to c !! 😊
And don’t forget the great podcast that is still going on, I’m Our Time. I’ve learned so much from it.
Yes of course - thank you for mentioning this.

very interesting author ... thanks for making this video. As always -- what's a Rosamunde video without Tilly making an appearance. She is so sweet 💗

I can't find any information of a novel about Tristan and Isolde by him - though I believe he has discussed the Celtic legend in In Our Time podcasts.
This was fascinating - thank you so much Rosamunde. And BIG hug for Tillie 💕💜💕

The Melvyn Bragg interview is on RUclips
I once bumped into Richard Burton on a train (true story!) He was extremely affable but also extremely drunk!
Yes, sadly, from what I've learned about him that's not surprising at all!

Ah - dear old Frank Muir! And he was quite right too 😉
Think I'm right in saying that Joan Bakewell was the original recipient of that memorable accolade!

Thanks for this suggestion - definitely one I would like to read, and I'll certainly mention it in my book list.
